Following a successful career in private industry and nine years as Ward 6 Alderman on Calgary City Council, Dave Bronconnier was elected Calgary's 35th mayor on October 15, 2001. Mayor Bronconnier's leadership has had a resounding impact on Calgary. Mayor Bronconnier has aggressively tackled Calgary's most difficult challenges, which include significant initiatives in municipal infrastructure development, the re-balancing of the
revenue-sharing arrangements with both the federal and provincial governments, the facilitation of partnerships to address homelessness and affordable housing, and a focus on programs that protect the abundant, but precious, environmental resources Calgarians enjoy. A third generation Calgarian, Mayor Bronconnier has wasted no time in spearheading the implementation of his vision to revitalize our city's most neglected area, East Village. His progressive thinking and passion for rebuilding this blighted area have led to the creation of the Community Revitalization Levy—an innovative funding system and the first of its kind used in Canada—to fund the economic, social, and environmental objectives to redevelop the Rivers District.
