The Calgary Arts Development Authority (CADA) champions the arts as a key driver of the long term success of Calgary. It acts as a central hub that invests in, promotes, learns about and advocates for the arts to animate Calgary as a vibrant cultural centre.
CMLC has partnered with CADA in a pilot project to utilize the space within the old Seafood Market. The 24,000 square foot building is located in East Village and is slated for eventual demolition. Until that time, however, the market has been turned into a workspace for 51 Calgary artists. The artists are currently working, creating or rehearsing in 14 studios within the building. The creative use of the Seafood Market is part of a long-term plan to position arts and culture as an important element of the new East Village.
