Following two years of construction, the Calgary Downtown District Energy Centre is now operating in East Village. The centre is located on the corner of 9th Ave SE and 4th Street SE. District Energy provides heating through a network of underground insulated pipes and is more efficient than traditional systems, which have separate boiler systems built into every building.
Now in its first phase of development, District Energy can provide heating for up to 10 million square feet of new or existing residential and commercial buildings. In March 2010, District Energy began providing service to Calgary's City Hall.
