East Village sits on 49 acres in the heart of downtown Calgary, sprawling between historic Fort Calgary and the downtown business core. A desirable piece of real estate with location, location, location, it hugs the Bow River on the north, and 9th Avenue SE on the south.
Back in 1875, East Village was downtown in its entirety. In fact, it’s where Calgary was founded. Over the years, however, the area fell on hard times. The neighbourhood became known for its abandoned future and vacant lots.
Fast forward to 2011. East Village is undergoing an exciting transformation. Since 2007, the changes have been dramatic. $150 million in infrastructure improvements have gone into the neighbourhood. Two major mixed-use residential projects with roughly 1,200 new condos have been announced and sales commenced in March 2012 with the opening of the East Village Experience Centre. The first three phases of RiverWalk and RiverWalk Plaza are now completed, and more development announcements are forthcoming. It’s a new dawn for East Village, and an exciting new future for Calgary’s urban living.
