Heritage Buildings

The historic buildings in East Village may be small in number, but they’re big on character. The Hillier Block, St. Louis, King Eddy Hotel and Simmons Building all have colourful histories and are an important part of the neighbourhood’s personality. That’s why CMLC is committed to integrating the buildings into the area’s overall planning and development.

Extensive remediation and restoration of all the buildings has either taken place, or is currently underway. CMLC refurbished the Simmons Building three years ago and it now houses CMLC’s offices. It’s envisioned as an active commercial space along RiverWalk. The King Eddy’s facelift continues, in preparation for its redevelopment as the Cantos Music Foundation’s new National Music Centre. The St. Louis Hotel and the Hillier Block had hazardous building materials removed last year and are now undergoing structural repairs to prepare the buildings for new commercial/office tenants.
