Embracing the Bow River and celebrating its rich history, RiverWalk is the true soul of the Rivers District. The broad promenade and cycling pathway is a significant component of the overall redevelopment of East Village. When completed, RiverWalk will follow the banks of the Bow and Elbow Rivers for four kilometres, linking neighbourhoods from Chinatown to East Village to Inglewood to Stampede Park.

RiverWalk is designed as both a journey and a destination. The pathway will be a key connector and commuter route for pedestrians and cyclists. At the same time, with its outdoor art installations, extensive landscaping, washrooms (open for event use only), lighting and outdoor furniture, RiverWalk will be a sought-after recreational destination – a place where Calgarians can reconnect with the river and literally dip their toes into the Bow.

Development of RiverWalk is unfolding in multiple stages. With the completion of Phase I, II & III, Calgarians now have two kilometres of riverfront to enjoy – from the Centre Street bridge to 9 Avenue SE. CMLC’s focus n 2013 is on planning for future phases, which will develop RiverWalk along the Elbow River as it passes around the south-eastern fringe Stampede Park.

Master Plan

When completed, RiverWalk will meander four kilometers along the south side of the Bow River from Centre Street to Fort Calgary.
