RiverWalk/Master Plan

When completed, RiverWalk will meander four kilometers along the south side of the Bow River from Centre Street to Fort Calgary, and eventually along the west bank of the Elbow River to Lindsay Park. RiverWalk will restore the natural beauty of the riverbanks and serve as a connector to explore cultural and leisure activities within East Village and its adjacent communities.

You’ll relax on RiverWalk’s many benches, find places to eat, enjoy the view from its outlooks, join celebrations on a wide public plaza and touch the river waters from terraced steps leading down the riverbanks. With designated spaces for pedestrians and cyclists, innovative native plantings and a variety of stones and woods, RiverWalk will be one of Calgary’s most treasured amenities.

RiverWalk is master planned to be constructed in three stages:

  • Stage 1 – Centre Street Bridge to 9th Avenue SE;
  • Stage 2 –  9th Avenue SE to 13th Avenue (Victoria’s Crossing);
  • Stage 3 – 13th Avenue SE (Victoria’s Crossing) to Lindsay Park (Stampede).
RiverWalk will follow the banks of the Bow and Elbow Rivers for four kilometres, linking neighbourhoods from Chinatown to Stampede Park.
