St. Patrick's Island is a 31-acre island sitting directly across from East Village at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow Rivers. This little island is currently one of the most under-utilized park spaces in Calgary.
As progress in East Village and the broader Rivers District continues, CMLC’s goal is to develop the island into a popular amenity for all Calgarians to enjoy. In May 2010, we embarked on a year-long master plan process to help shape the future of St. Patrick’s Island. After almost a year of extensive study and soliciting your input, St. Patrick’s Island now has a master plan.
The framwork for the design and development of the island was announced recently. Based on your feedback and analysis, development of St. Patrick's Island will follow the principles of Biophilia, a landscape design approach that recognizes the inherent need to interact with nature. It should:
The next step for St. Patrick's Island is an open request for qualification (RFQ) to identify and qualify a consultant for the detailed concept and design for the island. Check back often for regular updates on the island's progress.
