The opening today of a major new transportation connector leading into and out of downtown Calgary means the drive home tonight will be a whole lot easier for thousands of commuters.
The four-lane 4th Street SE Underpass, which is a joint effort of CMLC and the City of Calgary’s Department of Transportation, connects Olympic Way SE at 11th Avenue SE near Stampede Park, with 4th Street SE at 9th Avenue SE by dipping below the CP Rail tracks.
The RiverWalk plaza will transform into an outdoor movie theatre on September 24 at 8pm. Bring your lawn chairs and settle in for a screening of the old classis, Casablanca, screened on the wall of the SImmons Building.

After a year of planning and construction, RiverWalk Phase 2 officially opens today. Phase 2 winds west from 3rd Street SE to the Centre Street Bridge, marking the completion of roughly one kilometre of RiverWalk from RiverWalk Plaza at the Simmons Building west to Eau Claire. This newest section of RiverWalk features a separated pedestrian promenade and cycling path, extensive landscaping with native grasses and trees, as well as a viewing deck which looks out over the Bow River.
Calgary Municipal Land Corporation announces New President and CEO
(Calgary, AB) – Following an exhaustive six-month national search spearheaded by executive search firm Conroy Ross Partners, the Board of Directors of Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) announced today that it has selected Michael Brown as the organization’s new president and CEO. Mr. Brown will assume responsibilities at CMLC, the organization leading the redevelopment of East Village, on Sept 21, 2011.
Construction starts on East Village Experience Centre
(Calgary, Alberta) – East Village redevelopment pioneers FRAM+Slokker and Embassy Bosa Inc., together with Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), announced today the construction of an 8,000 sq. ft. sales and marketing centre in the heart of East Village. The East Village Experience Centre will educate interested Calgarians and future residents on the vision of East Village and will showcase the developers’ residential homes and product stylings.
'Island destination': CMLC announces master plan for St. Patrick's Island
(Calgary, Alberta) – St. Patrick’s Island has a master plan – a framework to guide its design and development that respects the natural and physical attributes of the island and promotes an ‘island destination’ for all. This, after thousands of Calgarians provided feedback through a year of public dialogue, meetings, open houses, surveys and a St. Patrick’s Island advisory committee.
In 2010-11, more than 6,000 Calgarians weighed in with their ideas, dreams and hopes for St. Patrick's Island. The result was a master plan design framework that will guide the design for this unique island park space.
