The proposed curved footbridge at St. Patrickís Island will be an innovative and unique structure that strives to create a memorable icon in the region. This new city symbol will help accelerate future improvements in the island, shoreline paths and the East Village development by attracting visitors and becoming a destination in itself. The bridge will provide an evocative link between the Calgary communities on the north and south banks of the Bow River. When seen from long range view points, the bridge resembles a bird taking flight from the tip of the island which provides a natural habitat for several species of water fowl.

The bridge layout includes a gently curved structure that relates well to the exiting topography of the site uniting the two shorelines with a striking new link. The overall length of the 5 meters wide curved bridge is approximately 200 meters in two spans with an abutment and foundations at the island. The east span over the Bow River will have a length of 110 meters and the west span will have smaller span of 78 meters.

The proposed St. Patrickís Bridge will be a structure of outstanding visual merit, structural innovation and cost effectiveness that we hope will become a source of pride for the Calgary community for generations to come.
