This project is based on the idea that water has the ability to hold memories – in this case the memories of a city. The bow river is the life-force of calgary and a key feature in the urban topography of this place. An in-depth exploration of the site and its many qualities was key to the design process.
The bridge concept highlights the salient features of the bow river and its importance to the residents of calgary both as a recreational and a cultural area. Small ëpavilionsà are also featured on the bridge, and can serve as interpretive sites for the river ecology and the riverwalk project.
The bridge is conceptualized as a tenuous thread of connection within the urban fabric the site is a place of historic and cultural value to the City of Calgary
The bridge + architecture exist dynamically through time, space + light the interventions adapt + move to the ever-changing site environment
The bridge exists at a point of confluence between the Elbow River + the Bow River the confluence of the two rivers mirrors the salient evolution of life in this place.
