Now that East Village has progressed from vision to reality, it’s got a look and feel more befitting the cool, energetic, in-demand downtown neighbourhood it’s grown to become.

For the past 10 years, CMLC’s focus in East Village has been on crafting the vision for its redevelopment and seeing that vision through to reality. Now that East Village is taking shape as a real neighbourhood—the past couple of years have seen a flurry of activity: countless events, public art installations and new residential and retail offerings—it seemed the perfect opportunity to give the East Village ‘brand’ a new look.

The all-grown-up East Village boasts 1,400 new residential units and dozens of new businesses, and it attracts more than a million visitors a year. It even made it onto The New York Times’s 52 Places to Go in 2019!

The new brand position reflects where the neighbourhood is today. East Village is Calgary at its most dynamic and creative, an exciting city neighbourhood and destination where Calgary’s most inspiring people, events and opportunities are concentrated in a few walkable, bike-able and well-connected streets. East Village offers more city and more life—it’s a catalyst of urban culture, a future-facing hub of optimism, ideas and energy that is helping Calgary live its next chapter. For residents, businesses and visitors of all kinds, it’s the real-life city neighbourhood that’s evolving and defining not only the east end, but all of Calgary.
