A team of marketers and communicators as dynamic as they are dedicated, our resident experts in brand-building, placemaking and public engagement built, launched and now carefully nurture the East Village brand. Their diverse backgrounds include branding and communications experience in land development, resort and real estate marketing, consumer packaged goods, sports and culture.
Susan Veres, Senior Vice President, Strategy & business Development
Susan joined the CMLC team in 2009 and, together with her team, has successfully lead the rebranding of Calgary’s East Village and converted the image of the community from one of the most blighted areas in the city, to one of Calgary’s most desirable real estate addresses. She is the corporate lead on our Developer and Land Strategy - a program responsible for attracting approximately $3 Billion in planned investment - and also oversees our corporate communications and public engagement strategies. Susan has been integral to the delivery of a long term strategic vision for the company and works closely with the President & CEO and Board of Directors to ensure the organization is positioned for future growth.
Beyond her day to day role at CMLC, Susan is a member of the Board of Directors for Calgary Arts Development Association and recently, volunteered as Chair, Marketing & Public Relations for the 45th Annual Juno Awards hosted in Calgary, March 28-April 3, 2016. Throughout her tenure with CMLC, she has loaned her expertise to a variety of industry advisory panels, brand workshops and community planning initiatives.
In her 20-plus year career, Susan has worked across multidisciplinary teams to create strong brands, grow partner investment and create meaningful public engagement. She has worked with notable brands including Coca-Cola, Triple 5 Corporation and West Edmonton Mall, Canadian Olympic Committee and International Association of Athletics Federation, Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), Tourism Calgary and more.
Clare LePan (Nolan), Director, Marketing
Clare is equipped with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations and is responsible for marketing communications within East Village. Clare brings extensive agency experience to the team.
Previously, Clare worked for a local marketing agency that specialized in providing strategic communications plans and marketing activities to land developers within Canada and the US. Clare's knowledge of the local Calgary developer audience is a critical strength, but it’s her charm and quick wit that we cherish most!
Jessa Morrison, Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications
Jessa joined the CMLC team in August 2014 and has been instrumental in the delivery of CMLC's programming strategy, designed to activate the neighbourhood’s public spaces and foster a sense of community through annual events and programs. Backed by a Bachelor of Applied Communications, Jessa garnered a solid background in event management and marketing communications through extensive work in the sports and entertainment and arts and culture industries. Most recently, Jessa managed marketing communications for the Glenbow Museum. With a passion for community building, she is an energetic placemaker and valued member of the CMLC team.
Amanda Eveson, Manager, East Village Experience Centre
Amanda joined the CMLC team in January 2012 as Manager of the East Village Experience Centre. With over 15 years' experience in tourism marketing, Amanda has executed local, national and international marketing programs. Prior to joining CMLC, Amanda worked with Calgary-based resort and Golf Course developer, StoneCreek Resorts and was responsible for the developing of a holistic member concierge program. In her new role, Amanda leads the operations of the East Village Experience Centre along with the East Village Ambassador program. With her solid expertise and engaging personality, Amanda is a great addition to the CMLC team.
Joanna Pesta, Manager, Programming & Events
Joanna joined the CMLC team in March 2016 as the Manager of Programming & Events. Joanna comes to our team after 7 years of creating enriching campus life experiences for the Students’ Association of Mount Royal University where she sat on the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities (COCA) Board of Directors for 2 years. Joanna’s passion for community building continues to her volunteer work where she was Chair of TEDxYYC and sat on the Swing Dance Calgary Board of Directors. Equipped with a BA in Sociology from the University of Calgary and an Event Management Certificate from MRU, Joanna has a solid foundation in which she has grown her expertise in the event management field. Joanna’s passion for local initiatives and events makes her a great addition to the CMLC team.
Jack Olson, Intern, Marketing & Events
Jack joined the CMLC team in April 2015 as a marketing & events intern to assist in the delivery of consumer marketing programs and the execution of our robust events & programming strategy. Equipped with a BA in Urban Studies from University of Calgary, Jack’s interest with East Village began early, he was one of our original members of our Ambassador team working in the EV Experience Centre in 2012 and furthered his experience working with the Employment Services training program at The Calgary Drop-in & Rehab Centre. Most recently, he worked as a sales coordinator for a local multi-family developer before returning to the CMLC team upon the completion of his Bachelor’s degree. Jack’s keen and insightful approach to work are a strong asset to CMLC.
Brynn Parker, Intern, Marketing & Events
Brynn joined the CMLC team in April 2015 as a marketing & events intern to assist in the planning, delivery and execution of our Events & Programming Strategy along with assisting with marketing and communications programs for East Village. Brynn completed her Bachelor of Communication and Culture from University of Calgary in April 2015, during which time she honed her skills working as a recreation programmer for the City of Calgary (Community & Neighbourhood Services). Most recently Brynn worked as the market manager for the Bridgeland Riverside Farmers’ Market, providing her with tactile experience perfectly suited to her new role at CMLC. Her creative and proactive attitude are a great asset to our fast-paced team.
The part-time staffers of our Experience Centre, our East Village Ambassadors are CMLC’s front-line representatives – welcoming visitors, answering their questions and orientating them to the neighbourhood.
The EAST (Events. Activation. Street Teams) Crew helps deliver neighbourhood events and programs, where they also serve as “the face of East Village.” Trained to answer questions about the neighbourhood, the EV Crew can be seen riding around East Village on bicycles during the summer months.
