CMLC works hand-in-hand with the numerous Business Improvement Areas, Community Associations and Neighbourhood Associations in our communities to ensure residents and retailers are engaged in the redevelopment of the Rivers District. These groups include East Village Neighbourhood Association (EVNA), Vic Park BIA, Beltline BIA, Beltline Neighbourhood Association (BNA) and 17th Ave BIA.
CMLC reports to the City twice a year through our AGM and annual Business Plan and Shareholder meeting. In partnership in the delivery of major city-building projects, CMLC is currently collaborating with the City and our project partners in the delivery and oversight of the Arts Commons Transformation (ACT), Olympic Plaza Transformation (OPT), and other major projects underway.

The Calgary Stampede is a not-for-profit community organization that preserves and celebrates Calgary’s western heritage, cultures and community spirit. Since 1912, the Calgary Stampede has hosted its annual 10-day festival, which attracts more than 1.2 million guests from every corner of the world every year.
The land at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers has been a place of Indigenous significance for thousands of years. In 1875, it became a site of colonization with the occupation of the NWMP and increasing settler presence, eventually leading to the creation of our city. In spring 2024, Fort Calgary changed its name to The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland. Under this new name, we are freer to expand the narrative of this place to encompass the many diverse histories of the land. Stories of the North-West Mounted Police and Fort Calgary help to define this place and will always be a part of the narrative here, but there are other important stories to be told, too. At The Confluence, storytelling is liberated and history is an open and welcoming book.
Since 1985, Werklund Centre has been a key contributor to social, cultural and intellectual life in Calgary. Werklund Centre is currently home to six resident companies and used annually by 200+ community groups. Through WCT and OPT, this vital cultural institution will be a major catalyst to downtown Calgary’s revitalization and the city’s exciting evolution.
Based in Winnipeg, Alston Properties is known for bringing creative and unique developments to urban settings throughout Western Canada. Alston’s extensive experience working with stakeholders to create community-specific buildings that complement unique neighbourhoods—as in Winnipeg’s Exchange District, a National Historic Site—makes the company a natural fit for East Village.
CMLC and Calgary Transit have been working hand in hand since 2021 in the delivery of the 17th Avenue SE Extension & Victoria Park/Stampede Station Rebuild. The $128M two-part project, managed and funded by CMLC, is opening up and modernizing Stampede Park’s western edge, giving Calgarians a new connection between Stampede Park and the neighbourhoods to the west plus a much more accessible LRT station.
Located on the lower level of the restored St. Louis Hotel and managed by CMLC, the EV Safety Hub is a centralized shared space that enables police and social supports to work together to ensure East Village and its public spaces remain safe and welcoming for all. It allows multi-agency teams to share information and coordinate to deliver the most appropriate response to community concerns.
