Downtown

Calgary’s core is the economic and commercial heart of the city. CMLC is leading two major initiatives as part of the city’s Greater Downtown Plan.

A vision and a roadmap to build a thriving, future-focused downtown

In 2021, to address the impacts of the pandemic and other influences on downtown’s vitality and sustainability, The City forged the Greater Downtown Plan, outlining the bold moves The City and its downtown partners must make to shift from vacancy to vibrancy and optimize use of downtown assets. To support this imperative effort, we’re managing the transformations of Arts Commons and Olympic Plaza on behalf of our partners at The City of Calgary.

History

A plan to transform vacancy to vibrancy

  • To counter the impacts of a prolonged pandemic and pivot within an emerging new economy, The City of Calgary is now investing in its 2021 Greater Downtown Plan—a strategy for placemaking over the next decade to create a new future for the city’s downtown.

  • Already attracting private investment, the Plan is anchored by major initiatives like the Arts Commons and Olympic Plaza Transformations.

Our Progress

Supporting The City’s strategy for revitalizing Calgary’s downtown

Through our work on Arts Common and Olympic Plaza Transformations, we’re supporting Calgary’s Greater Downtown Plan—a roadmap to help city-builders, decision-makers, investors and citizens understand the direction for placemaking in the heart of Calgary over the next decade. It builds on current momentum by guiding future initiatives to realize the vision of being a vibrant and resilient destination for everyone.
