Following the successful completion of the new Central Library (and Calgary Public Library’s exit from the Castell Building), CMLC entered into a lease agreement with the City of Calgary, owner of the Castell building. CMLC and the City worked to identify programming opportunities to activate the vacant building and provide a dynamic use in the space that responds to the building’s prime location.

CMLC has recently announced a partnership with the University of Calgary to bring a collaborative research hub to activate the main floor of the Castell Building. The joint effort creates a new space for over 50 students to use on a daily basis and allows CMC to extend its reach into the community while also helping to diversity the economy and bring to life an important landmark in the community.
