Background & General Scope of Position

Reporting to the Director, Communications and External Relations, the Communications Coordinator will be a detail-oriented and driven individual involved in supporting the execution of communication initiatives that support CMLC’s work within the Rivers District. The successful candidate must be a task-oriented self-starter, who is keen to be part of a fast-paced team that is leading robust communication strategies for East Village, Calgary’s Culture + Entertainment District and CMLC. The position will also support the execution of comprehensive communication strategies for CMLC’s major projects.

The Communications Coordinator has a minimum of three to five years’ experience in a communications/public relations role and brings a proficiency in technical and creative writing to support overall communication efforts, an understanding of strategic communications and earned media best practices, and excellent planning and time management skills to support the organizational requirements of the department.

They are responsible for tracking and responding to community inquiries, supporting the communications team in planning media events, and supporting content development, analyzing and reviewing earned media analytics to inform communications strategy, supporting project communications content development, and other departmental needs as required. They possess strong verbal and written communication skills and have excellent inter-personal and skills.

The successful Communications Coordinator has high energy levels and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities. High attention to detail and accuracy is fundamental.

The successful candidate will not hesitate to go above and beyond to ensure the job is completed effectively and efficiently and must have an appreciation for working collaboratively with colleagues, across organizational departments and with external stakeholders, including agencies and suppliers.

Key Accountabilities / Deliverables

  • Support for project communications strategies, including communications plan and key message development, media event support, and preparation of written materials for media, community and public audiences
  • Creative and technical writing for a range of audiences and channels, including newsletters, reports, web, community bulletins, and internal communications deliverables, among others
  • Management of communications content calendar
  • Support in identifying opportunities and developing award submissions
  • Monitoring, tracking and reporting media coverage and analytics
  • Research and reporting on earned media trends and insights
  • Management of stakeholder relationship management database
  • Administrative duties, as required

Qualifications

Essential Relevant Experience

  • Three to five years previous communications or public relations experience
  • Desire to build a career in the communications field
  • Experience in the real estate/land development industry considered an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Alignment with CMLC’s organizational mandate and values
  • Ability to liaise with team members and external stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint

    Development Coordinator

    Background and General Scope of Position Reporting to the Development Manager, the Development Coordinator is a key position in the continuing vitality of the East Village and the C+E District. The Development Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the Senior Director, Development, with day-to-day responsibilities required to ensure the safety and maintenance of East Village and the C+E District. Community maintenance is a top priority for the Development Coordinator, performing site walks and responding to weekly community maintenance. This role will be proactive and diligent when assessing the maintenance needs of the community and will communicate and collaborate with contractors and consultants to create solutions in a timely manner. This role also supports CMLCs overall community safety initiatives as required and will collaborate with colleagues to address timely response and solutions. The Development Coordinator will provide construction oversight relating to infrastructure and public assets, working closely with project partners, and communicating construction activities in and around East Village and C+E District to relevant parties. This role is passionate about safety and has solid construction experience. With no two workdays being the same, the successful applicant is flexible and thrives in a dynamic work environment. The Development Coordinator is a strong communicator and collaborator, applying emotional intelligence to every situation. Attention to detail and accuracy is fundamental and the coordinator will demonstrate evidence of being a self-starter ensuring the tasks are completed effectively and efficiently. Key Accountabilities/Deliverables Research and implement best practices in maintenance such that the CMLC’s lands are maintained to a high standard and budget is managed and allocated in an accountable and defensible manner. Capture maintenance items that require repair or immediate attention. Ensure that community infrastructure is maintained to a high standard through contractor management. Coordination of infrastructure repairs (roads, sidewalks, bridges, underpasses, lighting, street furniture, utilities, etc.), park or plaza spaces, and public art as required. Work with trades and consultants, contractors and specialists to ensure the community and CMLC assets are secure and safe. Conduct weekly site walks, preparation of site reports and quality control reviews. Produce purchase order request forms and effectively track committed costs against corresponding budgets. Supporting creation of project budgets and managing ongoing maintenance budgets. Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, the City of Calgary and the public. Provide support services in response to safety related incidents and requirements in the community including incident tracking, reporting and analytics. Support design intervention and enhanced safety responses as required and directed. The ability to understand, respect, and effectively interact with diverse populations, in an urban setting.
