Background & General Scope of Position

Reporting to the Vice President, Building & Infrastructure, the Design Director will provide a voice at the table, elevating the conversation with innovative design expertise and in-depth knowledge of design relating to CMLC’s work. This role has the ability to help impact our city and influence the design direction of all CMLC projects.

The Design Director will oversee and support a diverse range of projects of various scales from ideation to completion. This role will work with CMLC project teams as well as third party consultants to ensure elevated, quality design outcomes. The Design Director requires an understanding of the design process from programming through to detailed design and an ability to advocate and challenge current best practices in design and construction. The successful candidate has a background that has demonstrated success leading design teams through early planning and exploration through to approvals and permitting.

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and can develop strong relationships with CMLC’s partners. They are comfortable representing the best interests of our projects as an owner’s representative while managing the expectations of both internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate is highly adaptive and listens to understand and lead.

Qualifications

Essential Relevant Experience

  • 5+ years of experience working in architecture, landscape architecture, land development, urban design and/or project management.
  • Demonstrable experience leading the design process, an ability to recognize quality design, an understanding of its value and a track record of defending it.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • A strong fit with the CMLC team is essential; must like friendly competition and laughing.

Desired Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or landscape architecture. Master’s degree preferred.

Working Conditions

  • A combination of office and project site presence is required.
  • CMLC offers a flexible hybrid work environment between office and working from home.

    Project Coordinator - Intern

    Background and General Scope of Position The Project Coordinator Intern (PC) provides support to CMLC’s Building & Infrastructure Team and is an important contributor to the CMLC projects team. This individual will be assigned to support several Project Managers on various projects being delivered by CMLC. The PC’s involvement ensures accuracy in all project documentation and that CMLC’s project management processes are working efficiently. This position is a limited term. Dates will be determined with CMLC and the successful proponent. Key Accountabilities / Deliverables Providing support to the Project Managers, Senior Project Managers and Directors in terms of scheduling and coordinating internal and external project meetings, workshops, and presentations. Supporting project management activities such as preparing project plans and monitoring performance against those plans, implementing project controls, assisting in the project procurement processes, change management, preparation of draft contracts and administration of contracts. Working with CMLC’s Finance Team to support purchasing, cost tracking and invoice processing. Providing project based administrative support as required. Participating in project meetings including preparing agendas and minutes and following up with meeting participants to ensure action items are completed on schedule. Preparation of draft project status reports with the support of the PM. Management of the document management system for projects. Preparing project documentation with support of the PM. Providing support in the development of project management plans and standards for project management best practices. Other such duties as required by the role.     The Vice President, Development is accountable for establishing and leading CMLC’s development function as a scalable, enterprise‑integrated capability that supports increasing project complexity, portfolio growth, and long‑term city‑building outcomes. This role provides strategic and operational leadership across the full development lifecycle—from land acquisition, concept development, feasibility, and deal structuring through to project delivery alignment—while serving as CMLC’s senior development voice with the City of Calgary, development partners, and key stakeholders. The Vice President, Development plays a critical role in exercising independent judgment, strengthening front‑end development discipline, and integrating development activities across the organization. A core priority is advancing CMLC’s Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) program while enabling broader development initiatives across the portfolio. Specific Responsibilities This is a critical role in CMLC’s continued success and growth.     Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing, the Marketing Coordinator will be a multi-talented individual; involved in supporting the execution of social media strategy, social media account coordination, consumer marketing and brand programs, and overall departmental needs as required. The successful candidate must be a detail and task-oriented self-starter, who is keen to be part of a fast-paced team that is leading marketing and communications programs for East Village, Calgary’s Culture + Entertainment District and CMLC platforms.
