Background and General Scope of Position:

Reporting to the Director, Building & Infrastructure, the Senior Project Manager will be a technically sound and project-oriented individual, involved with oversight of large, complex projects. Complexity is defined by multiple interfacing projects, multiple funding sources, multi-disciplinary teams of consultants, third party vendors, third party project management services, contractors and authorities having jurisdiction along with management of a large stakeholder group including public and private interest groups.

This role requires a background that demonstrates knowledge and successful use of full cycle project management processes related to procurement, design and construction contract management, risk management, scope management and budget management. The Senior Project Manager must have exceptional organizational and communication skills and the ability to excel in a dynamic environment.

This role will develop strong relationships with CMLC’s partners and act as a Project leader, ensuring that partner and stakeholder expectations are met or exceeded, and the project’s best interests are represented with respect to contractual and technical issues. The role will lead the development of practical and effective project specific processes related to governance, communication, risk management, cost control and scope management.

As a Senior Project Manager, you can confidently lead complex projects from the planning and design phase through to construction and commissioning. You will be able to demonstrate experience delivering large scale projects for institutional and government clients. You are experienced working as an owner’s representative, establishing best practice project management methodologies and procedures and acting as a leader to the project team(s).A Senior Project Manager at CMLC must be comfortable representing the best interests of our projects while managing the expectations of multiple stakeholders and providing technical and project leadership.

Finally, the Senior Project Manager has high energy levels and can pro-actively manage project teams towards successful outcomes. Attention to detail and accuracy is fundamental and the Senior Project Lead will not hesitate to go beyond the bare minimum to ensure the job is completed effectively and efficiently.

Qualifications:

Essential Relevant Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a leadership role on complex projects of varying sizes and scopes with multiple stakeholders for institutional, commercial, or government sector clients.
  • Demonstrable experience leading the design process, an ability to recognize good design, an understanding of its value and a track record of defending it. Also experience in ensuring the design process is well organized and documented to set the construction phase up for success.
  • Experience working with Construction Managers and ensuring the value is being delivered with respect to planning for effective design and delivering cost efficient construction.
  • Strong understanding of contract law, procurement best practices and applicable trade agreements.
  • Enthusiasm for the details and a sense of satisfaction in delivering projects in compliance with project agreements, contracts and other project documentation required to support CMLC’s relationships with our project partners.
  • Strong understanding and application of best practice project management methodologies and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of the various types of construction delivery methodologies, infrastructure construction contracts, contract law and relevant legislation.
  • Experience effectively leading projects through the City of Calgary’s permit processes.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to effectively influence others and successfully resolve a variety of client, project and technical issues.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including a working knowledge of scheduling (MS Project), word processing (Word), spreadsheet (Excel) and Autodesk software applications.
  • A strong fit with the CMLC Projects team is essential; must like friendly competition and laughing.

Desired Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, architecture or an equivalent of academic and practical experience
  • Professional Engineer or RAIC preferred
  • Project Management Professional designation

    Development Coordinator

    Background and General Scope of Position Reporting to the Senior Director, Development, the Development Coordinator is a key position in the continuing vitality of the East Village and the C+E District. The Development Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the Senior Director, Development, with day-to-day responsibilities required to ensure the safety and maintenance of East Village and the C+E District. Community maintenance is a top priority for the Development Coordinator, performing site walks and responding to weekly community maintenance. This role will be proactive and diligent when assessing the maintenance needs of the community and will communicate and collaborate with contractors and consultants to create solutions in a timely manner. This role also supports CMLCs overall community safety initiatives as required and will collaborate with colleagues to address timely response and solutions. The Development Coordinator will provide construction oversight relating to infrastructure and public assets, working closely with project partners, and communicating construction activities in and around East Village and C+E District to relevant parties. This role is passionate about safety and has solid construction experience. With no two workdays being the same, the successful applicant is flexible and thrives in a dynamic work environment. The Development Coordinator is a strong communicator and collaborator, applying emotional intelligence to every situation. Attention to detail and accuracy is fundamental and the coordinator will demonstrate evidence of being a self-starter ensuring the tasks are completed effectively and efficiently. Key Accountabilities/Deliverables Development (50%) Coordination of infrastructure repairs (roads, sidewalks, bridges, underpasses, lighting, street furniture, utilities, etc.), park or plaza spaces, and public art as required. Work with trades and consultants, contractors and specialists to ensure the community and CMLC assets are secure and safe. Conduct weekly site walks, preparation of site reports and quality control reviews. Produce purchase order request forms and effectively track committed costs against corresponding budgets. Supporting creation of project budgets and managing ongoing maintenance budgets. Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, the City of Calgary and the public Support design intervention and enhanced safety responses as required and directed. Maintenance (50%) Research and implement best practices in maintenance such that the CMLC’s lands are maintained to a high standard and budget is managed and allocated in an accountable and defensible manner. Capture maintenance items that require repair or immediate attention. Ensure that community infrastructure is maintained to a high standard through contractor management. Provide support services in response to safety related incidents and requirements in the community including incident tracking, reporting and analytics. The ability to understand, respect, and effectively interact with diverse populations, in an urban setting.
