Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) and Calgary Stampede have been neighbours, literally, since 2007 when the development company moved into East Village and began to deliver a master plan vision for the East Village neighbourhood. Like all good neighbours, the two organizations have had many occasions over the years to collaborate on the delivery of several infrastructure programs and community partnerships.
In 2016, CMLC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Calgary Stampede to collaborate on the advancement of the Rivers District Master Plan.
In 2018, CMLC completed the Rivers District Master Plan, the master plan document which includes aligns the ambitions for Stampede Park with the vision for Calgary’s Culture and Entertainment District and subsquently entered into a development agreement with Calgary Stampede to oversee the expansion of the BMO convention venue. With that agreement in place, CMLC is now preparing to deliver what can only be called a catalyst project for east Victoria Park. Adding more than 500,000 SF to the existing space, the proposed expansion will elevate the BMO convention centre to Tier One—the level required to attract international business to the District.
