We are pleased to announce the appointment of Alan Norris as the new Chair of CMLC’s Board of Directors.

Alan joined the CMLC Board of Directors in 2024, and brings a legacy of distinguished leadership in the development industry and an exceptional dedication to Calgary’s affordable housing sector to his role as Board Chair.

Alan most recently served as Managing Partner in Brookfield’s Real Estate Group, and was Executive Chair of Brookfield Properties’ development group in North America until 2021. Alan’s involvement in the community includes chairing the Resolve Fundraising campaign, a collaborative campaign representing nine different agencies addressing homelessness, to raise $120 million for affordable housing in Calgary. He is also past Chairman of the Calgary Homeless Foundation, and was inducted into the BILD Alberta Hall of Fame in 2018 for his contributions to the industry.

“As CMLC continues to grow our community-building mandate to enable further housing development within and beyond the Rivers District, we will do so supported by Alan’s trusted guidance and strategic industry insight,” said Kate Thompson, CMLC’s President and CEO. “We are fortunate to have Alan’s leadership on our Board, and we look forward to advancing our shared vision for our city together.”

As we welcome Alan into this new role, we recognize outgoing Board Chair Randy Magnussen for his extraordinary contributions to CMLC and our city.

Over 10 years on CMLC’s Board of Directors—including as Board Chair since 2019—Randy helped to steward the transformation of East Village, guided the expansion of our work into Calgary’s Culture + Entertainment District, and championed city-building projects that have redefined Calgary’s downtown. In Randy’s tenure as Board Chair, CMLC nearly doubled in size, from a team of 21 supporting a largest project value of $245M to a team of 39 stewarding more than $1.2B in city-building projects. His leadership and vision have left a lasting mark on our city, and we thank him for the profound impact he has had in our communities and our organization.
