Transit-oriented communities—often referred to as TOCs—are not a new concept. But in a city experiencing rapid population growth and rising demand for housing, they’re gaining traction as a practical, long-term response to some of Calgary’s most pressing challenges.
For CMLC, transit-oriented community development represents a natural extension of our core expertise: master planning, city-building and delivering complex projects through partnerships.
For CMLC, the development of a TOC master plan is not a single step but a structured, phased approach designed to build understanding, refine ideas and arrive at a plan that’s both ambitious and achievable.
CMLC believes realizing a sustainable future isn’t the responsibility of one team or discipline—it’s a shared vision that can only be attained through a series of everyday actions across the organization, influencing how we plan, build, and care for our communities. In celebration of Earth Month, we asked five members of CMLC’s Sustainability Working Group: What role does city-building play in realizing a sustainable future?
On March 8, 2026, communities across the world celebrated 115 years of International Women’s Day – a global day that recognizes the achievements of women and reinforces the ongoing work needed to advance equity in our communities. Moved by International Women’s Day, we have highlighted five of CMLC's inspiring women and their contributions to city building work across Calgary and beyond.
Since 2007, CMLC has been transforming Calgary—brick by brick, block by block, idea by idea—creating places that connect, inspire, and redefine the way people experience our city.
For CMLC and our communities, 2025 was a year defined by progress, partnership and purposeful city-building. As we advanced the first year of our 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, our team—now more than 40 passionate city-builders and placemakers strong—continued to deliver on major civic infrastructure projects, support vibrant neighbourhood growth and apply our expertise to new opportunities across Calgary. With momentum building across East Village and The C+E, and in our evolving efforts in transit-oriented community development, 2025 marked another transformative chapter for CMLC and for the city we serve.
Following the municipal election on October 20, 2025, CMLC is pleased to welcome Mayor Jeromy Farkas and two new Councillor appointments to CMLC’s Board of Directors: Ward 4 Councillor DJ Kelly and Ward 11 Councillor Rob Ward.
As steward of the East Village Master Plan, the safety and well-being of the neighbourhood – and all those who live, work and play here – is a top priority for CMLC.
