M2 is Complete!

We’re thrilled to announce that East Village’s latest mixed-use building is finished and ready to welcome new tenants to the neighbourhood. Completing this project brings CMLC one step closer to realizing our vision for East Village and gives Calgarians a few more reasons—and ways— to enjoy our spectacular riverfront.

M2 is a four-storey building that delivers new street-level retail topped by two storeys of office space and a single residential penthouse suite.

Built by Calgary’s XYC Design + Development and designed by Brooklyn-based nARCHITECTS, M2 packs plenty of architectural interest and energy into a small but spectacularly situated riverfront lot.

According to XYC president Kate MacGregor, the building’s design was inspired by the unique qualities of the site: its small size (just a quarter acre) and its position between Jack and Jean Leslie RiverWalk™ and Confluence Way. “The undulating north façade of the building minimizes shadows along the riverfront and, as each level subtly recedes from RiverWalk, the terraced shape offers each level a panoramic and unobstructed view of the beautiful Bow River.

M2’s street-level retail space will welcome new offerings from two well-established local businesses: Bow Cycle’s second location (that will focus on e-bike sales and rentals) and a new restaurant by Concorde Group (creators of beloved Calgary eateries Model Milk, Pigeonhole, National and more) that includes outdoor patio space spilling onto the adjoining RiverWalk Plaza. Both will open next year.

The second floor will be home to Harvest, a western Canadian ‘venture builder’ that helps globally competitive companies increase their impact by providing support, funding and networking opportunities, while the third floor will be shared by three Calgary companies: North West Capital—a long-standing venture investment firm specializing in the energy sector—XYC Design + Development, and cleantech startup Quebe Technologies Inc. All are in the process of moving in, and will be fully ensconced in their new digs soon.
